BELTON, TX — Mary Hardin-Baylor turned its inaugural game in a plush new stadium into a statement win, as the Crusaders dismantled Wesley, 35-7, in a battle of top-five Division III teams.
After the pomp and circumstance of opening Crusader Stadium, the Cru (3-0) wasted no time in jumping all over the Wolverines (2-1) in front of 9,384 fans.
When the rubber pellets settled, UMHB’s offense racked up 461 yards, while its suffocating defense held Wesley to a mere 105 yards of total offense. UMNB has given up just 27 points this season.
Cru sophomore quarterback Zach Anderson was dynamic and versatile, throwing for 238 yards and a touchdown and rushing for 61 yards and two more scores. Teammate Elijah Hudson, a running back, also had a big game with three total touchdowns.
The Cru, which will be back at home against Sul Ross State next week, nearly recorded a shutout, but Wesley scored with 5:06 left in the game. The Wolverines will play at Birmingham Southern next Saturday.
