College Football America’s 2014 Coaching Carousel: Harsin back at Boise State

If you need a new head coach, look no further than Jonesboro, AR.

For the third time in as many years the Arkansas State Red Wolves have been raided by another program for their head coach. Bryan Harsin, who took over this season, is now the new head coach at Boise State.

Harsin led the Red Wolves to a Sun Belt Conference championship, but defensive coordinator John Thompson will lead the Red Wolves into their bowl game.

It’s hard to argue with Harsin leaving for Boise State. He was the offensive coordinator for the Broncos from 2006-2010 and helped turned them into an offensive juggernaut. He turned Kellen Moore into an unstoppable offensive force at quarterback. Harsin left for Texas and spent two years as co-offensive coordinator before leaving to take over the Red Wolves.

Harsin also played quarterback at Boise State, so his roots go way back.

And if you’re looking for your first head-coaching job, Jonesboro isn’t a bad place to land. Harsin’s predecessor, Gus Malzahn, just led Auburn to a SEC title and BCS National Championship game berth. Malzahn’s predecessor, Hugh Freeze, is presiding over Ole Miss’ resurrection.

The dominoes are starting to fall and a big one could fall this week, if the rumors of Mack Brown’s resignation at Texas are true.

That brings us to 11 FBS head-coaching openings this season.
