Talking Georgia State on Barnhart and Durham

So a year ago, in my role as columnist on PigskinU.com, I wrote a piece on Sun Belt Conference expansion (yes, I’m probably the only one writing about it). At the time, reportedly, the Sun Belt was getting interest from current FBS teams, and the rumor was that Louisiana Tech might be interested in moving from the WAC. Well, I assumed that if the Sun Belt made that kind of move, that would put the league at 11 football teams by 2013 and they could add one more team to get to 12 teams and have a conference championship game. After some research, I determined that Georgia State, the new football program in the Atlanta area, could be a viable option.

My column earned some notice, most notably an appearance on the Barnhart and Durham Show on AM 790 the SportsZone in Atlanta. Barnhart is Tony Barnhart of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and CBS Sports. Durham is Wes Durham, the play-by-play voice of Georgia Tech football. It was a big deal for us.

Well, last week, Georgia State accepted an invitation to join the Sun Belt Conference for the 2013 football season, and apparently the boys at B&D have long memories because they invited me on to talk about the move and the potential ramifications for the Sun Belt moving forward.

The audio is now up on Barnhart and Durham’s page and at PigskinU.com. Give it a listen and, if you like what you hear, catch up with Barnhart and Durham from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. EST at http://www.790thezone.com/barnhartanddurham/index.aspx or on their simulcast on CSS Sports.
