BRENTWOOD, TN – The Brentwood (TN) Academy Eagles shocked the Tennessee high school ranks Friday night ending the 29-game win streak of the Ensworth (Nashville, TN) Tigers in a 36-10 blowout.

In doing so, the Eagles also served notice that their 7-3 record doesn’t tell the whole story. The Eagles were 2-3 halfway through the season and facing the very real prospect of missing the playoffs entirely. Five weeks later, they are on a tear more reminiscent in recent years of the Ensworth team they dispatched Friday night.

Both teams will get a bye in the first-round of the TSSAA Division II Class AA playoffs next week, and Brentwood Academy will then travel to west Tennessee on November 15 to face the 4-6 Briarcrest Christian (Eads, TN) Saints who also have a bye. Ensworth, meanwhile, will get the winner of the 1-9 St. Benedict (Cordova, TN) Eagles and the 5-5 Christian Brothers (Memphis, TN) Purple Wave – a rematch of this Friday’s contest in which the Purple Wave demolished the Eagles 48-7.

Brentwood Academy and Ensworth will both be favorites to advance in those two quarterfinal match-ups setting up a possible semifinal rematch between the two Middle Tennessee rivals on November 22 with a trip to the state championship game on the line.
