As a member of the panel that will select the 2014 Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award winner, each week I’ll publish the release awarding the Player of the Week award. The release is below. Check back here each week to find out who will win the honor en route to selection of the inaugural Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award winner later this year. TYLER, Texas – Boise State running back Jay Ajayi has been named The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week for the second week of the 2014 college football season.

The Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Week provided most of the spark for the Boise State Broncos in their 37-24 victory over Colorado State in the conference opener for both teams. The Boise State running back had 33 carries for 219 yards and two touchdowns.  Ajayi also had four catches for 61 yards and one touchdown. When asked about his role through the first two games Ajayi said, “It’s been great getting a lot of opportunities to touch the ball and make big plays for the team.”

Ajayi graduated from Frisco Liberty High School and is from Plano, Texas. He is a junior at Boise State.

THE EARL CAMPBELL TYLER ROSE AWARD

The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, announced in 2012 by the Tyler Chamber and SPORTyler, recognizes the top offensive player in Division 1 football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community, and tenacity; specifically tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals.

In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four year D1 Texas college.
