The Dallas Cowboys are preparing to continue the 2014 NFL season with a home game against the New Orleans Saints in Week 4. Here are the five storylines to watch entering the game.
Mo Claiborne is not happy. Former first-round pick Morris Claiborne made story No. 1 real easy. According to multiple sources Claiborne stormed out of the Cowboys practice facility on Tuesday when he learned that Orlando Scandrick would replace him in the starting lineup. Frankly, I predicted this last week — not that Claiborne would storm off, but that Scandrick would replace him in the starting lineup. I mean what did Claiborne expect? He played poorly last Sunday vs. St. Louis. Sure, he had the late interception, but go back and watch that play. Rams quarterback Austin Davis overthrew his receiver and the ball practically fell into Claiborne’s arms. But it was also only the third interception of Claiborne’s career. Otherwise Claiborne was getting burned every time the ball came his way. I felt this was a crossroads year for Claiborne, in terms of whether he would become a player worthy of being a first-round pick. This does not bode well and it’s going to force the Cowboys to have to answer questions about Claiborne all week, on a week in which they need all hands on deck against New Orleans’ pass offense. This could get messy.
