TYLER, Texas – Texas Tech freshman quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been named The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week for the fourteenth week of the 2014 college football season.
Mahomes set a Big 12 freshman record with his 598 yards on 30 of 56 passing that included six touchdowns in a 48-46 loss to Baylor. The record was previously set last season by Texas Tech teammate Davis Webb when he passed for 462 yards at West Virginia. Mahomes became the second freshman in school history to pass for over 300 yards in three straight games.
Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury, “He battled. We knew he had some opportunities one-on-one with our corners. He kept stepping up and took some shots and kept getting up. And their receivers made great plays, O line blocked for him. But for a kid to come in and keep battling, he’s gotten better and better. And so excited to watch him develop in the future”.
Mahomes graduated from Whitehouse High School, Whitehouse, Texas.
