BELTON, Texas – The Linfield Wildcats withstood every punch second-ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor had to deliver before pulling out a come-from-behind 31-28 victory Saturday afternoon in the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs Saturday at Crusader Stadium.
Sam Riddle (So., Hillsboro, Ore.) passed for 280 yards and two touchdowns, including the go-ahead TD to Erick Douglas III (So., Clackamas, Ore.) late in the third quarter. Riddle also weaved his way for 57 yards and one touchdown.
Linfield (10-1) advances to play at Widener (Pa.), which defeated Christopher Newport (Va.) 37-27 in another second-round game Saturday.
Mary Hardin-Baylor (11-1), which reached the NCAA semifinals last season, suffered its first defeat of the season.
