The week ended with Kansas filling its head-coaching position with an interesting selection — David Beaty.
Beaty is probably not someone you’ve heard of, and even I admit I wasn’t sure who he was when he heard the name. Right now he’s the wide receivers coach and the recruiting coordinator at Texas A&M. On both counts he’s had a hand in A&M’s success, as he tutored Mike Evans, now one of the top rookie receivers in the NFL, and helped fuel the Aggies’ rise as the No. 1 recruiting destination along all Texas football programs.
But he also has history at Kansas, and that’s something you should never underestimate in situations like these. Beaty was, at one time, the wide receivers coach and the co-offensive coordinator at Kansas. So he understands the culture and the expectations. To be fair, he’s inheriting a mess in Lawrence and it’s now up to him to clean it up. It’s going to take some time.
With Beaty’s hiring we’re down to five remaining openings on the 2015 FBS Coaching Carousel. There are sure to be a few more next week once the College Football Playoff pairings and bowl game pairings have been announced.
