College Football America’s 2015 Coaching Carousel update: Levine out at Houston

Former Houston head coach Tony Levine.

Former Houston head coach Tony Levine.

And Tony Levine makes it a dozen, as in a dozen head coaching changes for the 2015 season.

Houston let Tony Levine go after three seasons on Monday, a bit of a surprise given that two of those seasons were on the winning side. But Levine reportedly was the victim of a 7-5 season the same year Houston opened its sparkling new stadium. But you could make the case that Levine was close to having the program moving upward, as they lost seven games by a touchdown or less the last two years. Of course, you could also make the case that just means Levine doesn’t know how to coach in crunch time. Cuts both ways I guess.

Coachingsearch.com reported that three names that have appeared on College Football America’s Hot Coaching Names report could find themselves in contention for the job — Ohio State offensive coordinator Tom Herman, Baylor offensive coordinator Phillip Montgomery and TCU co-offensive coordinator Doug Meacham. All three have Texas ties and all three are familiar with in-state recruiting.
