Matthew Postins’ 2015 Mock Draft Version 2.0
For now, here is my first mock draft. It will certainly change, as our next mock will come on March 20 when performances at pro days and the opening of free agency will certainly influence everyone’s thinking:
1. Tampa Bay: QB Jameis Winston, Florida State
Winston had a solid combine, despite the rumors about his weak shoulder. Jason Licht, the general manager for Tampa Bay, said that both quarterbacks — Oregon’s Marcus Mariota being the other — showed him enough to be deserving of the No. 1 overall pick. Winston is the better fit for what the Bucs do, though, as they already run a pro-set offense, similar to what Florida State ran. He also has the bigger arm. The question, of course, is the off-the-field stuff and the word out of the combine is that Winston answered everyone’s questions in a way that left teams much more comfortable. There is still his pro day, likely a visit to One Buc Place and the extensive background check. But I could see the Bucs taking him now. Earlier this week NFL.com reported that the Bucs have been talking with FSU head coach Jimbo Fisher, ostensibly about Winston.
