I was immensely lucky to have arrived when I did.
Around 4 a.m., the police were pounding on our door to evacuate the building. My wife, my dog and I stayed outside with our neighbors for nearly four hours before we decided to go to my mother-in-law’s house in Rockwall. While we waited, we heard two of the pipe bombs explode across the street. Very surreal stuff.
We got back to our loft around 2 p.m. When we did, a large portion of Lamar Street was still blocked off, so I didn’t know if the John Waite show scheduled for South Side Music Hall, which is also just down the street from my building, was still going to happen.
