In this edition of Dallas Cowboys First and 10, we break down what we saw during the Blue-White Scrimmage on Sunday evening as it relates to the Cowboys’ upcoming scrimmage with the San Diego Chargers on Thursday night.

First, we should talk about who didn’t play. Wide receiver Dez Bryant was held out as a precaution after tweaking his hamstring. Two running backs — Darren McFadden and Lance Dunbar — sat out with hamstring and ankle injuries, respectively. Cornerback Brandon Carr did not play and wasn’t even in Oxnard. Carr returned to Dallas for surgery on Monday for a broken bone in his right hand. Team officials say the injury is similar to DeMarco Murray’s injury last year, and Murray only missed four or five days. So they don’t consider it to be serious. Guard Ron Leary (back) and tackle Doug Free (offseason surgery) was held out as well. Cornerback Tyler Patmon missed the scrimmage, as did defensive tackle Nick Hayden.

One note — the Cowboys have ruled out both McFadden and Dunbar for Thursday’s preseason game. The team hopes to have McFadden on the field the weekend after the Chargers game.
