Stock up
QB Jameill Showers. Showers is perhaps the most intriguing player in camp. He’s a quarterback by trade, but as I pointed out after the 49ers preseason game there is little chance Showers will make this team as a quarterback. But as a special teams performer Showers has been a standout. Against San Francisco Showers was in on practically every tackle. He’s worked as the personal protector on punts and on all coverage teams. Normally, one might dismiss all of that. But the departure of Dwayne Harris to the New York Giants has the Dallas Cowboys looking for a Swiss Army-type of player who can fill Harris’ coverage role. I’m still not sure if Showers can make this team, but if he does it will be solely as a special teams player. This much is certain — everyone is paying attention.
