MONTGOMERY, Ala. – A late touchdown and two-point conversion lifted the Lanier (Montgomery, AL) Poets to their first victory Saturday afternoon at the Cramton Bowl dealing the Rehobeth (Dothan, AL) Rebels a 23-21 loss.
Rehobeth trailed 15-13 before Colton Knight’s 8-yard touchdown run with around six minutes to play lifted the visitors into the lead. A successful two-point conversion made it 21-15.
The Rebels then had an opportunity to run out the clock before a drive stalled at Lanier’s 35, and a failed fourth-down try opened the door for the Poets.
They took full advantage. Just four plays later, they celebrated a tying touchdown and then added the two-point conversion. The final frantic moments saw the Rebels then drive back down to the Poets’ 11, but a 30-yard field goal attempt was off the mark with 12 seconds remaining allowing the Poets to hold on for the win.
