A month ago the TCU Horned Frogs’ opener against Texas Tech looked rather benign. Not anymore.

Saturday’s game between the 3-0 Horned Frogs and the 3-0 Red Raiders has a prime afternoon slot on Fox (3:30 p.m. CST) and a myriad of storylines to explore. From TCU’s attrition on defense to the rise of quarterback Patrick Mahomes in Lubbock, this one feels like it has the makings of a good old-fashioned shootout.

Just don’t compare this game to any of either team’s three non-conference games.

“They’re (Texas Tech’s players) going to see a whole other beast this week with what TCU does and the dynamic athletes they have,” Red Raiders head coach Kliff Kingsbury said. “So it’s really apples and oranges.”
