The Dallas Cowboys lost to the New Orleans Saints, 26-20, in overtime on Sunday night. First and 10 examines the loss, including the loss of Sean Lee (again), the return of Drew Brees and the intriguing case of David Irving.
Well that was a heck of an ending. Dallas Cowboys quarterback Brandon Weeden leads a two-minute drill and Terrance Williams catches a diving touchdown pass on fourth down. The Saints go down the field and cut through the Cowboys defense and put Zach Hocker in position for an easy 30-yard field goal. He doinks it off the upright and the game goes to overtime. Then, on the second play of overtime Saints quarterback Drew Brees tosses a pass in the flat to C.J. Spiller for a touchdown and that ends it. Just like that the Cowboys are 2-2 and in a first-place tie in the NFC East. Panic mode, anyone?
The Dallas Cowboys are in trouble due to injuries. It’s that simple. There are too many guys hurt and there isn’t enough depth to carry the day. But frankly it gets no easier with New England coming to town next week. Getting Greg Hardy and Rolando McClain back next week brings some relief, but not nearly enough.
