BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Bowling Green (KY) Purples exploded for 49 first-half points en route to a 56-13 win over the visiting Grayson County (Leitchfield, KY) Cougars.

Bowling Green improved to 6-1 with the win while Grayson County fell to 2-5. The Purples entered the game ranked No. 1 in Kentucky’s Class 5A ranks, and they looked every bit the part running the overmatched Cougars off the field by halftime with a 49-0 lead.

That lead would cause the mercy rules to kick in with a running clock, and it was only the reprieve the Cougars would get until Bowling Green’s starters mostly left the field after halftime. The Purples would add a third-quarter touchdown to make it 56-0 before the Cougars finally took control in the fourth quarter to put 13 points on the board and stem the Purple tidal wave.

Bowling Green will take next weekend off before facing the 2-4 Barren County (Glasgow, KY) Trojans on Friday, October 16. Grayson County will also take a week off before heading back to Bowling Green that same Friday night to face the 5-1 Greenwood (Bowling Green, KY) Gators.

In the meantime, Barren County and Greenwood are scheduled to play each other tomorrow night (Friday, October 2) in Glasgow.
