Houston’s Greg Ward is the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Week 1 National Player of the Week

TYLER, Texas – Houston quarterback, Greg Ward, Jr. has been named The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week for the first week of the college football season.

The American Athletic Conference quarterback had an impressive performance in Houston’s 33-23 victory over #3 Oklahoma. Ward, Jr. threw for 321 yards and two touchdowns in what was the biggest regular-season non-conference game the Cougars have played in 25 years.

Greg Ward, Jr. is a graduate of John Tyler High School in Tyler, Texas and The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award winner 2015.

THE EARL CAMPBELL TYLER ROSE AWARD

The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, announced in 2012 by the Tyler Chamber and SPORTyler, recognizes the top offensive player in Division 1 football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community, and tenacity; specifically tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals.

In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four year D1 Texas college.
