Saint John’s quarterback Jackson Erdmann, the reigning Gagliardi Trophy winner, leads the 2019 College Football America Yearbook’s NCAA Division III Preseason Starting Lineup, CFAY’s version of an All-America team.
Erdmann, entering his senior season, is coming off a 2018 in which he led the Johnnies to the Division III quarterfinals before losing to eventual national champion Mary Hardin-Baylor. Erdmann threw for 3,450 yards and 47 touchdowns last year.
He’s not the only Johnnies player on the team, either. One of his primary protectors, Dan Greenheck, made it as an offensive lineman.
In all, 19 teams had at least one selection to the team. Mary Hardin-Baylor had two defensive selections — DL Joey Longoria and DB Jefferson Fritz — along with wide receiver and special teams start Aaron Sims.
Mount Union, which lost to UMHB in the Stagg Bowl, had four preseason picks to lead all teams — WR Justin Hill, DL Andrew Roesch, LB Trey Williams and DB Gabe Brown.
Muhlenberg and North Central each had two selections.
Returning AFCA First-Team All-Americans from 2018 include Erdmann, WR Andrew Wolf (Washington & Jefferson), TE Ryan Curtiss (Muhlenberg) and Longoria.
Returning AFCA Second-Team All-Americans from 2018 include Greenheck and P Zach Warcola (College of New Jersey).
The 2019 College Football America Yearbook features more than 930 college football teams from the United States and Canada in more than 250 striking, full-color pages. That includes every team from the NCAA (FBS, FCS, Division II and Division III), NAIA, NJCAA, CCCAA and U Sports (Canada). It also includes updates on club football, one-year postgraduate prep/sports academies and Mexican college football, along with dozens of action shots and stadium photos taken by the CFAY staff.
The print edition is available online via Amazon.com and other major retailers such as Barnesandnoble.com and Books-A-Million.
